Creative Fulfillment Requests? ShipGenie Delivers, Even Empty PR Boxes
A cosmetics founder needed an unusual empty PR box campaign. See how ShipGenie handled the custom fulfillment request with care and flexibility.
When It Comes to Shipping, We’ve Seen It All. Until a Client Asked for Something Totally Unexpected
In the world of beauty brands, PR packages can be a meaningful part of a product launch. ShipGenie supports PR kits and other special projects within the right fulfillment relationship.
But when one cosmetics founder called mid-launch blitz asking for an “empty PR box” with a printed photo inside… well, let’s just say it was a first. Joshua shares how we handled it, and why client-first fulfillment is always our priority.
Joshua’s Point of View:
By now, I’ve been in the shipping game long enough that nothing really surprises me.
Or so I thought.
We work with brands across categories, including beauty companies that send PR packages before a launch. Those campaigns can come with detailed presentation instructions and the occasional request nobody could have predicted from a standard pick-and-pack checklist.
But one day, I get a call from the owner of one of our favorite cosmetics brands. And let me tell you: when a client calls you mid-shipping blitz, your first thought is usually: “Oh no, what went wrong?”
This time? Totally different.
The owner says to me:
“Hey Josh… can you send out… like… an empty PR box?”
Me: “…An empty PR box?? Why?“
She laughs and says:“Well, not completely empty. I want you to take a picture of the products inside the PR box, print the photo, and put that inside an empty box.”
So Let’s Get This Straight…
She wanted me to:
Take a photo of her real PR box, Print the photo,
Put it in an empty PR box, then ship that box to someone?
I double-checked: “You really want me to ship… a picture… of the thing… instead of the thing itself?”
Her: “Yep.”
And then she added the kicker:
“It’s for my ex-friend. She doubted me, didn’t believe in this brand, and I just want her to know I made it.”
Oooooh. Got it. I respected it immediately.
So that’s exactly what we did. We built the PR box, took the photo, printed it, popped it inside the empty box, and shipped it straight to that ex-friend.
Josh again:
At ShipGenie, an unusual request starts with a real conversation. We confirm the materials, handling, timing, and capacity the project needs before committing to it. In this case, the request fit, and we got it done.
So if you’ve got an idea (wild, funny, or completely out-of-the-box, literally), let’s make it happen.
That’s the Magic of ShipGenie
When clients get creative, the warehouse work has to stay specific. Fulfillment isn’t just about shipping a box; it is about understanding what belongs inside, how it should look, and what the request requires before it reaches the packing station.
What This Means for Your Brand
Special projects work best when they are part of a clear fulfillment relationship, not an unlimited promise to improvise. Share the idea early, provide the packaging and presentation requirements, and leave room to confirm labor, materials, storage, and timing.
That same operating discipline applies to everyday Shopify fulfillment: define the real work, price it clearly, and make sure the account fits the warehouse before inventory moves.
